I decided to take the ilovecreatives Graphic Design Course to build on the skills I had already developed through my experience in digital marketing. As a self-taught designer, I've often struggled with imposter syndrome, so I wanted to deepen my understanding of the industry-standard design programs, learn best practices, and discover the techniques and shortcuts that would help me become more confident in my work.
I've been looking to make a career shift into graphic design, and taking this course has helped me tremendously. It's strengthened both my technical skills and my confidence as a designer.
I learned a lot about myself when it came down to the business section. I am not a numbers girlie at all, but seeing that it doesn't have to be a daunting task and I can truly customize things in the way that fits me best helped me look at the business aspect of a design career in a different light. Also, PHOTOSHOP! Photoshop has always been a daunting task for me, but this course and the videos helped me approach Photoshop with more patience and curiosity.
My favorite part was learning and exploring Figma and Notion. Two programs I've never opened until this course, it was nice to add two new platforms to my toolkit.
Advice I would offer those taking the course is to give yourself grace during this course. Some sections will be easier for you than others and sometimes life might get in the way. But keep going, keep learning and if you get frustrated, take a break and then come back. You will be so proud of yourself when you finish!
I think just the extra boost of confidence in myself as a graphic designer and even marketing professional is the best part of the course. I also love, as mentioned earlier, being able to add new programs to my toolkit.
