WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
"the line i trace with my feet walking to the museum is more important and more beautiful than the lines i find there hung up on the walls" - Hundertwasser
early on I embraced a hands-on approach to acquiring skills and experience. I've been a professional bassist since 2005, working in studios and on the road. 2009 began an unexpected but important course of study in Chinese and Taiwanese Tea Ceremony and today promote digital detox via tea to technologists. In 2012 I started exploring visual art by creating album/record cover art. In 2013 my fascination with augmented reality took off and started crafting interactive art installations with agile teams which then led me to the field of User Experience. In 2015 I pursued UX Design full-time at General Assembly with a 500 hour immersive. Became a first-time dad in the summer of 2015 and have been a freelancer since...
FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?
empathy. research. adventure.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
Launching an interview series / podcast about the chaos of creativity. Wanna chat?
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
My style is varied, my tastes rather minimal, my perspective fluctuates. No one project could encompass it, but check out the portfolio and we could riff on it.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
At this moment, more design - less hustle.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
I've been spending more time nailing down clients than invoicing... maybe it's time to consider going full-time with one company.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Babysit my toddler :)
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
Tell my 12-year old self that my parents divorce was not my fault and they were really just doing their best. Tell my 22 year old self that family estrangement is real and don't turn back. Go back to 30 and dive quicker into UX and blockchain.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Experience design that makes the world a better place.
WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
One that values holistic thinking, research, and iterating. one that doesn't use me to cram into the end of their project budget and asks for the world in 4 days. one that pays on time and respects sovereignty.
WHAT IS YOUR RATE?
Baseline rate is $80 / hour depending on scope.
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Whatever your preference, but first take a breath... then phone, email, tweet, instagram, text, postcard, etc. I find that offering a budget upfront without a project scope is often tricky. Let's keep the conversation organic, even if it's formulaic, talk about the idea, draft a scope, then let's line up the numbers.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Tea, parenthood, partnership, reading, podcasts, music, traveling
