WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a type-a creative that plays with balance of art and business.

I work with entrepreneurs to tell their story through the brand we build together.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

I always knew I wanted to create beautiful things for this world. It took a lot of inner power to follow that path because I had grown up in a family that did not think art could be a career. My "stubbornness" as it was labeled at this time, lead me to an educational path of art and business. I graduated from college with a business/marketing and graphic design degree, along with a year abroad of art studies in Germany and the Czech Republic. After college, I found myself working a 9-5 graphic design job at a pretty reputable jewelry company (business name disclosed). This was a place in my life that broke me and built me all at the same time. I was more depressed than I can describe - fueled from abuse of my manager, a toxic work environment, along with a soul that was desperately seeking to be creative without limits. I turned this depression into fuel and started a freelance business called Perspektiiv Design Co. It's now been 6 years that I've been self-employed and could not be more grateful. My story in this business has been quite a rollercoaster of failing, learning, and growing. I've now found myself in a place where my passion for business and art is fulfilled - and I get to work with entrepreneurs every day that are taking their leap of faith to start the business they've always dreamed of.

How do you stand out in your field?

I've provide high-quality brand identity design and graphic design for entrepreneurs and small businesses. I give my clients a personal yet professional experience through empathetic nature and knowledge.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Right now I am working on...

  • Brand Identity Design for a Mobile Cafe in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

  • Beer Can Labels for a Brewery in Tahoe, California

  • Packaging Design for a Gluten-Free Bakery in Portland, Oregon

  • Brand Identity Design for a Oyster Company in British Columbia, Canada

  • Packaging Design for an Edible Company in Denver, Colorado

  • SquareSpace Website Design for an Author in Denver, Colorado

  • Brand Identity Design for a Chocolate Company in Bend, Oregon

  • A handful of other small projects

...In addition to running my business, keeping up with social media, drinking enough water, and playing with my Australian shepherd.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

My style is clean and modern! My website is a good representation of this style, although I would love to begin moving towards a more minimal yet intentional design style that includes a more natural color palette and Illustration work.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

I am on the computer most of my life these days, and I wish I had more time to focus on building things with my hands. I am a total texture lover, and really enjoy crafting with clay, macrame, and paints. Maybe if I get around to hiring some help this year, I'll be able to pursue this more!

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

It's been quite a busy few years at Perspektiiv Design Co. and I'm trying to work on a better work/life balance (Aren't we all?!). My work is my passion, and I am so grateful for that. But this year I am committed to taking more breaks, scheduling more vacations, and really being mindful about clocking out with enough time to enjoy my life outside of work.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

If I could hire someone for $20/Hour I would have them assist me with all of my internal business tasks such as: building out my email lists, organizing files, sending client gifts, ordering new marketing materials, scheduling email campaigns, etc. Then it would free me up to do more of what I love, creative work, client interaction, and further education.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

2020 Alison would jump in the time machine and set it back”

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I would love to talk with an expert about growing a creative team: how to delegate, manage, pay, and organize so I can create a workplace that my employees can thrive in.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I am looking for brand identity projects with entrepreneurs and small business owners. I love connecting with those that have a vision and passion and are bold enough to follow it through in creating their own business!

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

My ideal project would be a brand + identity collaboration for a genuine women-owned business (This business could be in wellness, food + beverage, or outdoor industries) The project would contain a logo set, color palette, typography set, icons, and custom illustrations which we would use to create a strong and cohesive brand within print and web materials. (IE: packaging, website, social, marketing materials, etc.) They would live in Portland, Oregon (or have the finances to bring me to their location) so we could meet face to face to create this brand they've been dreaming of together.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

Every project is unique, just like the clients I work with. All projects will begin with a design questionnaire, and complimentary initial consultation so that we may determine the best possible way to create for my clients. After the consultation they will receive an estimated quote for the project. These projects are based on my $90/Hour Creative Rate (Although this hourly rate is subject to change year to year).

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

My preferred method of communication is via email: alison@perspektiiv.com - along with a scope of your project needs, a little bit about you and why you're passionate about your project!

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

Desolate Wilderness, Australian Shepherd Cuddles, Travel Abroad, Good Snacks, Essential Oils, + Skiing
