Q What do you do?

I am a creative designer who helps strengthen brands through digital design, packaging, print, and more.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I grew up loving two things: art and computers. As a high schooler, I found myself forced last-minute into a yearbook elective (something I was NOT happy about). To my surprise, I fell completely in love with digital design and spent much of my free time on Adobe Creative Suite. I went on to graduate from Temple University in 2020 with a degree in art direction.

Since graduation I've built a close-knit network of clients with whom I've had the opportunity to work with on some awesome projects. Some of my clients live down the street (literally), and some are all the way across the country!

Q How do you stand out in your field?

One of my greatest strengths is that I'm able to make a client's vision come to life even if it doesn't align with my personal aesthetic.

Q What are you working on right now?

So many things! Many of my projects are ongoing, which means when I complete one task, I have another one to focus on. I do a lot of e-mail design, so each week I have new designs to complete.

Q What’s your style?

I don't know to put my style into words. I'm inspired by so many different things. My perspective on the world of design is that I'm constantly learning from new people, new ideas, and new art forms, and therefore, I'm constantly evolving and shaping my creative style.

I wouldn't say any of my current projects represent my personal style, because my designs are meant to achieve the goals and visions of the client – not my own.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I can't deny that long hours in front of the computer can be draining–so when I'm finally able to step away, it's nice to find a creative outlet where I can use my hands and not have to look at screens.

One of my greatest passions in life is fashion and I've always wanted to learn sewing so that I could create my own pieces. I've also loved painting since I can remember, and wish I could focus a little more on spending time in front of my easel.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

I have to work a full-time job to keep myself financially afloat while I freelance on the side. I'd like to transition to freelancing full-time, but with the amount of work to do I have each day working two jobs, it's hard to find the time to start planning.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Compressing JPEGs! I think I spend hours a week running photos through compression tools so that my files aren't, like, HUNDREDS of megabytes.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

I wish I could shake my 15-year-old self by the shoulders and tell her to
A. Chill out.
B. Have a little confidence.

I was so scared of the feeling of inadequacy and so apt to compare myself to others. As I've grown older, I've come to value my individuality and talent while still appreciating other people's skills.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I feel like I'm floundering trying to decipher the business-side of freelancing. I wish I had a mentor to guide me through the process of transitioning to full-time (any takers?).

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I want to work with more brands in the fashion space. Fashion is such a huge part of my life and I think my personal interest and experience would manifest in some awesome designs.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

My ideal client is one that pays me on time, gives me a proper heads up on new projects, and provides useful and clear feedback on what they want.

Q: What is your rate?

I currently charge $40 per email and per hour of work, but it depends on so much. I work with a lot of one-woman brands and a big part of my philosophy as a designer is being flexible & cognizant of the client's needs.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Email me at hello@audreykester.com! Even if you're not looking for work...I love to make new friends! :)

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Yin yoga, long walks around the city, and espresso (maybe a little too much)...
