I am a freelance website and graphic designer!
 

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

University, Open a studio, Trial and Error, Work in an agency, Freelance for myself!

 

How do you stand out in your field?

I enjoy experimenting with typography, fluid grid systems and I love working with other people. My unique selling point would be my ability to transform ideas into visual stories that people fall in love with.

 

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Currently I am building a website for an Electric Scooter Start-up. The company is the only Electric Motorbike company in Australia! I am responsible for creating a new digital language (user experience) for the start-up in a way that people understand.

 

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I enjoy working on construction/architecture. I love working with clients who have the budget to allow me to play around with new ways of transmitting information online.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

One hurdle I am running into at the moment is finding new clients that are willing and able to spend money on a website that is truly transformational. I have worked in agencies who have clients that allow for flexibility giving time for designers to think creatively, I hope to find more clients who will give me this opportunity.

 

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

Marketing! Marketing! Marketing.

 

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

Interesting question... I guess I would have told myself prior to starting my own studio that my work deserves to be promoted and shared, I should be confident and comfortable to self promote!

 

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I would love to speak to an anthropologist who could give me a deeper understanding of how and why people make choices.

 

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Start-ups who want to grow their idea. Small businesses who want to find and convert new clients. Medium businesses who want to have a clearer and more concise brand message across their digital platforms.

 

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

As mentioned above, my ideal client is not bound to one industry. Rather, I am looking for clients who want to grow and are willing to trust the creative process I provide which revolves around asking questions, researching and delivering visual/digital solutions.

 

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE? 

This largely depends on the service the client requires. The information I need to price a project assuming the client is looking for a website would be, if they need a booking system, ecommerce, portfolio, forms. subscriptions, videos, animations and the list goes on.

We have a good system for gathering this information in a form that is not to dissimilar to the one you have provided today!

 

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

Phone call or email is always a good starting point, from there we work through a scoping session, then we answer forms depending on the service the client requires, then we give a budget.

Only now can the creative fun begin!!
