WHAT DO YOU DO?
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I graduated with a degree in Art Direction for Advertising but didn't feel my program was well-rounded enough so I took classes in graphic design, film, photographer, architecture and art history to name a few. I was hired at Sephora right out of college so I was able to get a lot of good experience early on that allowed me access to really good opportunities through out my career. I've also always been very clear about what I want and I think of it as if it's already happened or is happening, and that is a strategy that works for me. It's how I got my job at Glossier. I knew I wanted to work with Emily Weiss in some capacity so I moved to NYC and after just a year of living there Glossier reached out to me! It was a surreal experience.
How do you stand out in your field??
I'd say my work is bold and elevated while being clean, considered and authentic. I try to find a relate to people through my work.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I freelance with The RealReal and I recently signed on as Creative Director and Founding employee for a beauty brand based here in LA. The brand already exists but we are going through a full re-branding and will re-launch in November.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
I am definitely a minimalist and I aim to portray the essence of the brand/person/product through photography and tone of voice.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
I want to focus more on film-making. When I was in school I would make these super weird 'fashion films' and I miss doing that. I also am getting into Ikebana because Marisa Competello is my spirit woman.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Honestly I think finding a community in LA is my biggest frustration. When you work in an office or live in a city like NYC you are always around people. I love working with people, as so much of my job is collaborative, and freelancing I sometimes feel as if I am in a bubble.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Run ideas by them and collaborate on new ideas.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I wish I could tell myself to be less worried about what people think and ask more questions!
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I would love to talk to the people I admire about their creative approach/process.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I'm looking to work with more people in Los Angeles in either beauty or fashion.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I would love to work with Pheobe Philo, The Line, The Gentlewoman and Violet Grey.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
My current rate is $100 an hour depending on the project
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Budget, idea/inspiration and definitely a GIF.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Exposure to all forms of art
