Delesia Watson
Q What do you do?
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
It all began in third grade—when my book of poems won a Young Authors contest. I’ve been writing ever since.
In grad school, I was introduced to the business of luxury. As a PR intern, I compiled a daily report for our client, Burberry. Each morning, I’d research competitor news—not just trending fashion but also how competitors used technology to engage in-store shoppers and how CEOs appeared in the media. This helped inform their company-wide decisions, better serve their customers, and continue to evolve their brand.
In 2019, I took a leap of faith to leave my toxic work environment, combine my love for writing with my luxury industry insights, and form a business: a luxury copywriting studio. When I read a founder’s story and realized her brand name was a play on her own, I was inspired. My username on all social platforms is Deleesh, a college nickname and abbreviation of my name. I thought it was catchy enough to play off, so I threw out a few options. Life is Deleesh stuck. It means life is deliciously abundant.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
My clients spend their days delivering remarkable service and extraordinary products to their customers. So, I do the same for them. I go beyond just delivering exceptional copy. At every touchpoint, I strive to make the entire client experience a luxurious one.
Q What are you working on right now?
The most fun projects: a hotels guide for a luxury magazine, paid media for a premium rental car service, and verbal identity for a new upscale student housing project.
Q What’s your style?
I can quickly learn any brand’s voice, ask the right questions, and deliver compelling copy. But I especially enjoy collaborating with upscale beauty, fashion, and hospitality brands.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Parts modeling! I guess you could say I have money-making hands. Occasionally, my hands, arms, lips, or legs are recruited to appear in advertisements for leading brands. I’m grateful to experience a different aspect of marketing while on set.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
I’ve been putting it off for months to prioritize client projects, but I’m finally taking the time to breathe new life into my own blog.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Cook! All I ever have in my fridge are eggs and blueberries.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Girl, don’t wait to begin your writing career! It has been the best decision of my life. Because of the variety my work brings, I’m able to learn a little about a lot and never stop growing.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Becoming a pilot. It still amazes me that planes can fly.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I’m open to part-time, project-based and freelance opportunities.
I often act as an extension of the marketing team to support with campaigns and holiday support, along with web copy, naming projects, brand voice, and emails.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
I love collaborating with fellow creatives who let me have fun with copy.
Q: What is your rate?
All projects are custom quoted, but as a general idea, web copy starts at $3500, brand voice guides at $2500, press releases at $1500, package inserts at $250 and product descriptions at $60 (these can also be bundled).
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Shoot me an email at hello@deleesh.com or complete the form here. And tell me everything! I want to know all about your business, budget, project, and needs. I’ll take it from there.
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Chloe Leonard is a phenomenal designer and a dream to work with.
Erin on Demand creates inspiring content surrounding her entrepreneurial journey.
Taryn Delanie Smith's content will have you howling with laughter and encouraged in your humanity.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
The New York Times Games app has me in a chokehold.
