WHAT DO YOU DO?
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I’ve always been a creative soul from a young age and LOVED art. Design became my love language in school and I went on to study Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts. I had this long term goal that someday I might set up my own business and be my own boss but imagined it would be something I’d do 5 or 10 years later on down the line. However, after working in the industry for 3 years, I realized that the projects I was working on didn’t align with my values and I wasn’t being creatively fulfilled.
I initially started my small design business, Mindfully Made, as a side hustle whilst working for a design agency in London. After networking and gaining enough clients to get me on my feet, I took the leap and have never looked back since!
How do you stand out in your field?
Through my own personal journey, I established a raw passion for the well-being of people and the planet. This drive to make things kinder, brighter and more beautiful feeds into my work and continues to inspire me daily. Partnering with like-minded people that share the same values is one of my greatest joys personally, but it also gives me an edge in truly understanding your audience.
This unique perspective helps me to develop branding that your community will instantly connect with. I have a holistic and attentive approach to working and chose to work with one client at a time, so you have my full attention and focus during their project.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
The past month I have been working on designing and building my website - can you believe I went a whole year without one?! I feel like my website really showcases my web design and coding abilities, so it’s a portfolio project in itself!
Besides this, I've just had a design day intensive with &SISTERS where I worked on elevating their Instagram presence through custom-designed templates and a social media strategy document.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
My aesthetic is a mix of playful, clean and modern. I love minimalistic, elegant design but don’t shy away from using colour. When there's a clever idea or story behind the brand - that’s what makes me most creatively excited! However, it's not all about the visuals, I believe brands should be built on strong foundations and strategy. My rebrand for Bioloka is a great example that represents this.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
My first job in the industry was working for a food and drink packaging agency. I haven’t done much packaging design since then and I feel like I need to get my packaging skills up to scratch so I can confidently offer this to clients instead of outsourcing.
Additionally, my other creative skills are with a paint brush or pencil. I used to love painting still-life and portraits, but I just haven’t had any time for it in years!
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
The belief that I have to do ALL THE THINGS to be successful. The design industry has become quite saturated and competitive - it seems like everyone is bringing out the next course, the next product or template, new this and that. My aim is to focus on the things that I enjoy most and best serve my business.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
When you run your own business independently, you have to wear all that hats! I’d have someone take over the nitty-gritty tasks like emails, on-boarding and accounting, so I can focus on what I do best - the creative stuff!
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
Don’t compare your start to someone’s middle or end. Everyone is growing at their own pace and our journey’s are all different. It’s true what they say - comparison is the thief of joy!
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I would personally love to have a business coach, someone who could guide, inspire, and help me scale sustainably!
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I thrive helping brands who know what they’re about but need help projecting that image to the world. I aspire to work with established, yet small businesses in the wellness industry, who are ready to put their trust in a creative expert to help their business grow with intention. If you’re an earth-conscious brand or passionate about sustainability - then that’s the icing on the cake!
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I love working with businesses that truly care about making the earth a little bit more beautiful than how we found it.
A few examples of dream clients I’d love to work with: a sustainable yoga brand, a vegan boho cafe or a kombucha brand!
Who is a creative that has helped you elevate your work?
Marisa from Quill and Co collective.
I’m currently working through her brand clarity course, which is helping me to level up my brand strategy skills and bring more value to my services.
Abbey from Wayfarer Design.
I purchased Abbey's templates when I was just starting out and they've helped me define my process, improve my client presentations and her insight has been invaluable.
Rachel from Sqaurestylist.
She has an amazing code-plugin shop for Squarespace! I want to invest in her Squarespace course to enhance my coding skills.
Kati Forner - biggest design inspiration #goals!
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Preferably, if you can fill out the enquiry form on my website - that would be great! But I understand the fast-paced nature of the industry, not everyone has time to answer all the questions, so I’m open to people emailing me at harriet@mindfullymade.co.uk with a bit about your business and what exactly you are looking for.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
I love practicing yoga and meditation, trying out new vegan recipes, and walks in nature with my little dachshund, Luna!
