Q What do you do?

I’m a creative web developer and front-end software engineer with a deep artistic background.

I bring beautiful designs and ideas to life by transforming them into fully functional websites and apps.
My work ranges anywhere from building Squarespace sites for small businesses to custom web apps at big companies. I LOVE working with creatives to bring their ideas/businesses to life on the web.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

Back in college I studied Fine Art and worked as a journalistic photographer for many years. I’d always had a really strong interest and knack for web development (since the 90’s!) and I wanted to explore that further. I learned to code from online courses and the rest is history. I worked as a front-end engineer at a software company for several years until I decided it was time to fulfill my passion for working with creatives. I founded 🌹Good Rose Studio🌹 and now I get to work with really awesome folks who want to make creative/cool internet stuff 😎

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I have a super unique blend of artistic experience and tech experience. Because of this I’ve got a very good eye for great design/current trends, as well as the ability to successfully build the stuff. I’m also super communicative and absolutely LOVE to see others succeed.

Q What are you working on right now?

I’ve always got a few things in the works. I’m making a Squarespace site for a life coach to get her business up and running (she’s amazing btw). I’m also working on a cool custom web app using the framework React (shhh it’s still a secret). Oh! And I’m learning Shopify 🛍️

Q What’s your style?

I basically have two distinct styles that I gravitate towards: Fun + bright colors + retro and BIG TEXT on BIG PHOTOS. I basically like anything that stands out.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I’d love to up my design chops! I’m definitely more of a developer, but it’d be awesome to bring my design skills up a level to complement my current work.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Marketing is always a tough gig for me. It always ends up on the bottom of my to do list. Fortunately I just started taking the ilovecreatives Instagram course and that’s been helping me a ton.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Marketing! Social Media! Promotion! Lead generation!

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

You don’t have to pick just one thing. You can blend your creativity and love of tech together to create something awesome. Oh yeah, and keep up with the coding 👩🏻‍💻

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

Growing and maintaining a business. I’d also love to listen to any expert who has blended creativity and tech together in a meaningful and exciting way.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

Web development of all kinds: Squarespace, Shopify, custom CSS + Javascript.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I love working with small businesses, solopreneurs, new brands, and anyone with an exciting idea who wants to collaborate on something fun and innovative.

Q What is your rate?

A basic Squarespace website starts at $3,000 and goes up depending on complexity. My hourly rate for custom work/anything else starts at $100/hr.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Send me an email at goodrosestudio@gmail.com and let me know what your budget is, preferred time frame, and what you’d like to build together.

Q Who is a creative you admire?

Nicky Laatz - my fave typography
Megumi Tanaka - for blending web dev + design
Esther Povitsky - she’s a comedian but her brand really inspires me!

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

To quote Julia Camera from the Artist’s Way, “Serious art is born from serious play.” ➡️ Make time for fun.
