WHAT DO YOU DO?
“I have been a DJ for over 15 years. ”
In 2014 I started a DJ & live music entertainment company called Haute Mobile Disco to be able to manage myself as a DJ and also help other DJs. I love sharing with people through audio and visual platforms. In 2018 HMD began releasing original content which has added so much to our live shows. But being a DJ and a business owner is not where my creativity stops. In 2017 I released a documentary that I produced and directed called "the Terry Kath Experience". Currently I co-host and produce a podcast called "Zero Waste Life Hacks".
Basically, I produce content. From DJ sets to music blogs, podcasts to documentaries, events and more, I love what I do.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I never gave up on my dreams and carved out my own space in order to fulfill them.
How do you stand out in your field?
I believe that I stand out in my field by being truly talent in my skills, taking pride in the work that I do and taking into consideration the creative elements of whomever I am working with.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I am working on our mini mix promo video for 2020, the latest episode of Zero Waste Life Hacks Podcast and an EP. Not to mention playlists for the upcoming gigs.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
I have built all of my websites and I feel that they really represent my style and vibes.
Haute Mobile Disco has my music blogs and playlists. You can really get to know someone form their music selections.
The podcast now has a website that I have soft launched. I love the concept I have come up with and am really excited for this to grow.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
Documentary film making. I really want to make at least two more documentaries.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
At the moment I am frustrated with a slump in social media followers. People eating food or opening toys have hundreds of thousand of followers and likes, mean while we are struggling to get 1000 followers. I am feeling super stuck here as I feel like people in my field get jobs based on how many followers they have.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
OMG!!!!! I would have an office assistant. Hands down.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I wish I could go back to my 20 year old self and tell myself that being a DJ is a career and get to it. I waited so long to realize that I could make money form my passion. My family kept saying it wasn't a real job and I believed them. I wasted so much time. I could have been 10 years ahead of myself.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I would love to learn about how to fundraise. Many of my projects are based around raising the start up or finishing funds. I would love to really learn how to do that properly.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Music director, radio, film making, directing, producing.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
My ideal client/job/collaboration would be hosting big zero waste music events with a rad group of like minded vendors.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
Wow. This really depends on how big (or small) the gig is.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
I am a mother, wife and business owner. Staying creative isn't very organic these days. I have to literally block out times for myself and allow that creative space.
