Q What do you do?
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I am lucky to be educated by some of the most amazing illustration schools, including coursework from the School of Visual Arts right here in New York City. I started out drawing when I was little, and built up from there. Now, my smol and floofy studio assistant, Cookie, helps me in everything illustration.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
My passion is to make a difference and wow my clients with some illustration magic.
Q What are you working on right now?
I am prepping for some pet portraits events I have lined up in some local venues, I just sent off files for a sticker sheet for someone, and I have projects ongoing on everything from children's books to illustration assets for a kid's business. I recently illustrated for the NYC Department of Education!
Q What’s your style?
I love a style that’s happy, friendly, often kid-friendly, and diverse. I love everything colorful and inventive. My background in writing and research also gives my taste a dash of storytelling.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I've wanted to work in licensing or surface design for a while. I would love to do more book work, and brand assets!
Q What is frustrating you right now?
I am always looking to scale and grow my client list, and learn more about sales, marketing, and social media.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
A creative business coach can help me grow!
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I would tell myself that I am almost there, and to live life in the moment. To build small moments and continue to make memories.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I would talk about everything the business of illustration!
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I would love to do more branding and book illustrations, as well as portraits and projects that help others.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
My ideal client wants to get inspired, excited, and their expectations exceeded.
Q What is your rate?
An illustration usually starts at $400, depending on complexity and scope.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Please email me with questions and inquiries at hello@sophiefurmanart.com. I would love to hear about your: budget, scope, subject, and timeline!
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Ell Rose is amazing!
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
I have a very fluffy studio assistant by the name of Cookie who I love to take on ridiculously long walks, dress up in winter gear, and be her pawpuprattzi.
