Tracie Davis
Q What do you do?
“I’m a photographer and director. I thrive on working with brands to transform their products into lively and engaging visuals that are far from a typical studio setting, specializing in photo art direction, branding and world building in the studio.”
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I attended the Rhode Island School of Design for Photography, went on to get a MA in Contemporary Photography. I worked in digital at a few large museums in NYC before transitioning into early stage eComm startups. I worked as a photo art director and a photographer helping build a brand and scale a high traffic image heavy website. I have worked with home and lifestyle, beauty and hospitality companies before starting my own studio in Los Angeles.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I really love storytelling through still life photography. I strive for imagery that feels like a moment taken from real life.
Q What are you working on right now?
I'm working on expanding my lighting techniques and network of creative collaborators in Los Angeles. Always pushing my craft to get better every day.
Q What’s your style?
I love infusing whimsy into an image. There is a stop motion I did for the Wicked movie launch that is a butterfly flying around the product. It took a lot of time to make, but I feel like it really shows the product brought the life in a way thats full of joy.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Doing more personal work!
Q What is frustrating you right now?
The actual business stuff is never fun.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Help me organize all the props and product that arrive at my door throughout the week.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Go out on your own sooner!
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I love working with brands and products on an ongoing basis so that I can see how the imagery is working and grow the style for the brand. I used to be in house - so helping the brand grow through their imagery is always fun for me.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
A great creative brief, a little room to play and resources.
Q: What is your rate?
Project rates typically start around $5k, this varies depending on what your product is and if styling assistance is needed. The more built out the shoot is, the more expensive it gets as well. I do have my own studio, which does cut down on final shoot costs.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Send me an email tracie.davis87@gmail.com about what you're looking for. Include a general budget and if you can, a mood board of the look and feel you're looking for.
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Ali Chiappinelli — very creative and talented food stylist.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
just keep working!
