It has been great to actually have proper knowledge about the store object, the product object, the collection object, to really learn about all of these, technically, what is available to be manipulated, to what extent can we manipulate it. I had a good time looking into the theme “Spoons” because Megumi has a custom font selector written in there. The basic Dawn doesn’t have that customization. It has been great for me to look into the code and to see how Megumi implemented the custom code into the theme settings. That has been great to really see what are the possibilities to offer to clients.
To make a website in Shopify is not that scary. I think a lot of designers are so afraid of the development part. I’ve been telling my designer friends, designer to designer, it’s a good thing to learn so that we can design better and we can communicate with the developers better. Because I think the communication between designer and developer, sometimes we have a complicated relationship.
So to actually have a course like this to understand the concepts, the building blocks behind the design, so that we can prepare a good design for the developers, so that they love us—they don’t hate us anymore.
