I decided to take the Squarespace Design Course for a couple of reasons! Firstly, I wanted to increase my skills not only in building websites on Squarespace but also in understanding the world of freelancing. After spending years as an in-house designer, with freelancing as a small side hustle, I took the leap to freelance full-time and wanted to grasp the full process (and reality) of working with clients in a more 'professional' way, you could say, from what I was doing. Moreover, despite using Squarespace for years for my portfolio and some of those small client projects, I often felt constrained in my designs by my limited expertise with the platform.
A part of the course where I learned a lot about myself was definitely building Halcyon. I realized that I need to stop rushing through things for the sake of getting them done and instead just stop for the day and revisit later. After feedback, I had to go back and tweak the tiniest of details that not only were easy to fix but I could have avoided them if only I had let myself go through it calmly. Now, when I feel myself starting to rush I take a break and come back to it later.
There are a couple of things I loved about the course. First of all, it is SO FUN. Puno just has the best personality and energy, everything is beautifully designed that it only motivates you and gets you excited to go through it. That, and the Discord community & resources are the cherry on top, sooo valuable and worth it.
DO IT! This is your siiiiiign! I learned SO much more than just building a website on Squarespace. The content is super valuable, the homework is fun, the community is priceless, and there is a TON of resources. I have never ever taken such an enjoyable course in my life. I feel very proud, accomplished, and happy!
One good thing that's come out of the course for me is feeling very prepared to take on freelancing. I feel more confident in my Squarespace abilities and I believe I've been left with so many tools to keep practicing and improving further.
