Writing the 'About Me' section for my Copywriter Portfolio really helped me think deeper about the kind of copywriter I want to be and the types of projects I want to work on. My favorite thing about the course is drafting up my portfolio! (And the lush UX and UI of the course).
The content strategy and brand voice taught me a lot about myself. I realized how much I enjoy finding the core of a brand and the story-telling. It made me see that I have strong creative intuition and a natural sense of tone, aesthetics and audience. I used to doubt if I had what it takes to work in this space, but this course really boosted my confidence. My favorite part was planning content pillars and thinking how a brand could emotionally connect with the audience and still stand out. The content strategy part also was a favorite because it allowed me to mix my creativity and find visual direction into the brand.
The resources and exercises are really current and use inspiring examples - this was particularly helpful for my personal project work, as I felt able to get my ideas to a 'launch-ready' state myself. The monthly live calls and discord support is really good and very responsive when people have questions - I learn a lot from simply reading the feedback given to other students on their work.
So many things to love! I love how the course was structured, and the videos were really fun to watch! I'm glad it was self-paced. I work full-time, so I was able to tackle the videos and exercises at a sustainable pace. (Mostly... I ended up burning the midnight oil sometimes because of how much fun I was having!) It also allowed me to dedicate time to fully absorbing the information and letting the creative process flow. The templates and recorded workshops are amazing. And I LOVE the Discord community! I initially didn't consider it much when I enrolled, but it's wonderful to have access to such an empowering space.
I loved the part where we planned a mock launch. I took my personal social media presence through the course as the brand I was working on and it inspired me to launch a Substack this fall and create a whole marketing campaign to promote it! :) Joellen's teaching style was engaging and I liked all the Google Slides templates that I could put my own text & images into.
My favorite thing about the course was the custom site section and getting feedback on my work. When you’re working on a project, it’s so easy to feel stuck if you tend to be a perfectionist or when you’re not sure what to do next, but the community and assignments gave me accountability and an extra push to finish my website (+ realize that done is better than perfect!). Puno also gives detailed, personalized feedback that really helps you elevate your work!
There's more than one good thing to come out of the course. I've gained confidence in myself as a designer, and walked away with a portfolio that I love.
My favorite thing about the course is having a design portfolio! The instructors are great at helping you tidy your projects to get them in a portfolio worthy place.I already landed a freelance project with a pretty cool brand because I reached out and shared the portfolio I made in this course.
An unintended benefit of this course was the space it gave me to conquer my perfectionism. Prior to this, I had a lot of shame and fear around my writing, so I appreciated the way the course immediately addressed that aspect of being a writer. I learned how to take a more strategic, unsentimental approach to reading and editing my own work. Not unsentimental to the point of not caring, just to the point where I became objective in my refinement process. I became reassured in my abilities as a writer, while also accepting that I have room to grow.
As a self-initiated course, the experience is what you make of it! Submit things even if you know it could be better, let someone know you like their work, hit the co-working chat. I was able to get an interview at Adobe with the help of a community member and landed a full time job. Lots of a good things have happened since taking the course and I owe it to all the supportive creatives I've met here.
I feel confident in sharing my portfolio and putting myself out there! I'm someone with zero experience in copywriting, but I really feel like this course gave me a solid foundation.
I learned that I'm a nerd for data and enjoyed the analyzing metrics part of the course. I also liked how the content was presented and how the resources provided will be useful going forward.
As a slashie, I couldn't figure out how to make sense of everything that I know and am interested in. I have heard about the "sales funnel" so many times before, but it didn't click until this course. Pointing out what task fits into what part of the funnel lead me to the thread that connects all my skills together: web design and development for the bottom, educational copywriting for the middle, and content creation for the top! I'm so excited to use this in my sales pitch as an all-in-one studio that can cover all bases.
I'm so so grateful for how the program was able to connect my work as a junior designer to the feedback and eyes of industry designers! Not only was GDCCP a really encouraging safe space to meet other creatives starting out like me, but the portfolio I created from the program landed me a lot of new and exciting opportunities such as two brand design internships in Berlin and getting my work in front of design teams at Google.
I took the Graphic Design Course first. It completely unstuck me. Like, mentally. Creatively. Existentially. I started letting go of the "right way" and leaned hard into the weird side of my design brain. Then I took the Squarespace Design Course because I was already deep in it and figured, why stop now? It made sense — I’d just built a whole brand in the GDC, and now I needed somewhere to actually put it. The two courses were a match made in heaven.
I used this course to re-launch a previous creative writing newsletter on video and for IG. The tools from this course gave me the skills to launch this project thoughtfully and gave me a portfolio for the job market! From real-like practice and supportive feedback, through Joellen's relatable and motivating teaching style, taking this course was a highlight of the last couple months.
My advice to anyone thinking about taking the course is—Do it! The information is concise, valuable and engaging- and nothing ever comes without adequate examples to further assist. Copywriting contains so many elements that may initially seem intimidating, but this course helps lessen that intimidation by providing genuine community, examples and the workbook that really walks with you through everything. This course was fantastic! Everything was 10/10.
My favorite thing about the course was learning about graphic design in a fun way that ilovecreatives offer. Puno created such a fun way of learning that is digestible and easy to understand since it's all online and self-paced. I never felt overwhelmed or stressed out. Also, Mindy and Sarah really care and give such great feedback, you don't feel alone while taking this online course.
The process of writing a bio has always been the hardest for me. This course offered insightful questions that challenged me to dig deeper and define what I do, my perspective and what I hope to create. I feel more confident now in my abilities and clear on the direction I want to go in.
Without formal education on graphic design and being a perfectionist by nature, I had impostor syndrome. But this course showed me how to manage it. Puno was extremely supportive and encouraging every step of the way and addressed all those creative blocks with great empathy and insight in her videos. Also, I learned how to be disciplined and resilient and not to give up given that the course is self-paced and there were many moments in my journey I succumbed to self doubt and self criticism.
My favorite thing about the course was putting together the images/mood for each assignment and getting feedback from Joellen. She makes the assignments fun and inspiring, making the learning experience enjoyable. I feel much more confident now in applying for social media manager (and other that include knowledge of social as a bonus) positions
The strategy part was a game-changer for me because I think not many clients/brands focus on that part. I love knowing about setting goals and KPIs and managing expectations. Joellen's helped me a lot during office hours and with her feedback, so I'm forever grateful for her help! One good thing that came out of the course is landing a job and several freelance clients!!! I started my career in copywriting and I'm now officially a Social Media Manager in the entertainment industry (which is a dream come true) - I owe it all to the ilovecreatives team honestly.
It was so well-executed, engaging, and fun. I would buy another ilovecreatives course just for the hell of it, because I know i would get a lot out of it and want to finish. Plus, Puno's charisma and the gamification of the course made me feel confident that it was something I would see through.
You don't need experience in web design, programming, or eCommerce marketing to feel comfortable learning Shopify. They help, but having no experience is not going to set you back. You're learning new concepts and skills so its inevitable to feel challenged. The ilc discord community and Megumi are wonderful additions to your support system that will help you start your journey with Shopify.
My favorite thing about the course is how in-depth it got into the analytics and also that the visuals kept it interesting. And the constant encouragement! If you’re looking to scale your offerings to really make a tangible impact, then this is the course for you.
Give Ceilidh MacLeod a huge round of applause on the fantastic work she has done to teach this on demand skill! Let’s be real, she cuts out the puff and gets straight into business! ⭐️ I understood more than I ever knew before, especially in an area I was dreading to approach: Email Marketing. Tell me how that is one of my favorite sections of the course? That is what I call skill.
Woooooow—this course totally changed the way I think about photography. Before, I’d get so overwhelmed trying to bring my ideas to life, but now I actually have a process to follow. Breaking things down into steps made everything feel way more doable. Seriously, if you're feeling stuck in your photography, take this course!
I came into this course expecting to just get better at taking photos, but I left with a whole new mindset on running a creative business. Now, I know how to market myself, manage finances, and attract the right clients—I finally feel like I have a real path forward 🙌
